Day 26

Task: Wave at and/or say hi to everyone who passes by you on the road today.

It's tasks like these that remind me of my days on the schoolbus when I used to sit way in the back of the bus and play SweetN'Sour with the other drivers. For those of you who may not have ever heard of this game, you wave at a driver and if he/she smiles or waves back at you that's considered sweet. And if they don't do anything and ignore you then he/she is considered to be sour. It was tons of fun! Ever since I can remember, I never had much trouble meeting people and making friends. And even though I never made friends with any drivers, I enjoyed being friendly to strangers nevertheless! People are way too guarded and don't push themselves to seek out something better for them. Which is exactly what this task is meant to break you out of.

So I was on the RTD today and made friends with 3 new people who were all from out of town! One was from Chicago, one from Boston, and one from Mexico! It was so fun. And I waved at around 20 cars as I rode by the highway. Some waved back, some didn't. But that wasn't the point. I decided that I will no longer rely on others for acceptance, only on myself. It wasn't easy to reach and act on that decision, but it was definitely worth the experience. Do you have anything you feel too uncomfortable to do out of fear of being judged by friends (or even complete strangers)? I say, how can you grow without pushing your own boundaries in order to have room to grow? Don't be a fish in a bowl when you're born to be a fish in an ocean!
